Violetta Zujovic’s Lecture

Violetta Zujovic

After obtaining her PhD of the Paris XII University in Neurosciences in 2001 in the pharmaceutical industry (Sanofi), Violetta Zujovic did her post-doctoral training at the pharmacology department of the University of Florida then a second post-doctoral training at the INSERM. In 2011, she was appointed principal investigator at INSERM and joined the Paris Brain Institute to pursue her research. In 2019, she became the team leader of “Myelin plasticity and regeneration team”.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that affects the central nervous system, causing destruction of myelin, a crucial component for nerve conduction. This leads to permanent damage. Remyelination, a repair process, can occur and its efficiency is crucial for a positive outcome of the disease. A recent study showed that patients have varying capacities for myelin repair. Violetta Zujovic’s team aims to understand the molecular and cellular factors that determine the success or failure of remyelination to provide personalized treatment for MS patients.
