About Paris Brain Institute
In 2010, Professors Yves Agid, Olivier Lyon-Caen and Gérard Saillant launched the Paris Brain Institute, then known as Institut du Cerveau et de la Moelle Epinière. Paris Brain Institute leverages an innovative concept and structure, making it the only institute of its kind in the world.
Located in the heart of the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital, one of the largest neurological centers in the world, Paris Brain Institute brings patients, doctors, researchers, and entrepreneurs together, intending to rapidly develop treatments for disorders of the nervous system and enable patients to benefit from them as quickly as possible.
The best scientists from all backgrounds and countries collaborate to perform leading-edge research at the Institute. Government agencies, corporate actors, and individuals must all play their parts to help researchers advance in their work and give patients tangible reasons for hope.
No one can afford to idly stand by because this fight is vital to every one of us.

The Brain Challenge
Neurological and psychiatric disorders are the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 9 million deaths each year.
At Paris Brain Institute, we are committed to transforming the way brain diseases are understood, diagnosed, prevented, and treated. In 2025, we reached a major milestone with the launch of The Brain Challenge 2023-2028, our strategic fundraising campaign designed to accelerate scientific discoveries and create lasting advances in brain disease research. The campaign aims to raise an additional €50 million by 2028 to improve the lives of patients and their families.
Located within Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital – the birthplace of modern neurology – the Institute brings together scientists, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and patients to foster bold, interdisciplinary research and accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into therapies that benefit patients.
Through The Brain Challenge, we are investing in the next generation of neuroscience by strengthening our research capabilities, advancing artificial intelligence and data science, supporting cutting-edge technologies, and accelerating therapeutic innovation. Together, these efforts are helping shape the future of brain research and bringing hope to millions of patients and their families.
